Jim Adams, Chief Executive Officer
Prior to joining REACH in August 2001, Jim Adams worked for St. Joseph Health System of Sonoma County. He served as Area Vice President of Ancillary Operations for Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, Petaluma Valley Hospital and North Coast Rehabilitation Center. Previously, Jim was Director of Trauma and Emergency Services for Santa Rosa Memorial, where he was instrumental in the development and designation of the hospital as the region's first and only Level II Trauma Center. Jim has an extensive clinical nursing background in critical, emergency and trauma care. He worked as a flight nurse for REACH from 1992 to 1995. Jim received his nursing degree from Pacific Union College and his graduate degree in Public Administration and Health Services Administration from the University of California, San Francisco. Jim serves on the Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital Foundation Board, where he is a member of the executive and strategic planning committees. He and his wife Lydia have three daughters.
Brian Karr, Chief Financial Officer
Brian Karr is Chief Financial Officer directing all finance, treasury, funding and accounting functions to assure the success of current and future business strategies. Prior to joining REACH, Brian served as CFO of Magellan Health Services of Arizona. He was the founding finance director for The TriZetto Group, Inc., an information technology solutions company where he assisted the company in achieving an initial public offering and was instrumental in assisting in mergers and acquisitions, as well as in building the software-as-service business model for the hosting division. Brian's other experience includes senior accounting and finance roles at FHP/PacifiCare and TakeCare. He earned the CPA designation while working as a senior auditor at Ernst & Young. Karr earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Biola University.
Gary McCalla, M.D., Chief Medical Officer
Dr. McCalla joined REACH in December of 1995, and as a flight physician, performed many missions. In 1998 Dr. McCalla became the assistant medical director under REACH founder, Dr John McDonald. In 2000, Gary became Medical Director and continues to fly with flight crews as a mentor. In 2009, Gary was promoted to Chief Medical Officer with responsibility for the overall management of our associate and regional Medical Directors. Dr. McCalla is a residency-trained and board-certified emergency medicine specialist, who also works clinically at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital's emergency department. He completed his residency at Highland General Hospital in Oakland, California.
Sean Russell, EMT-P, RRT, Chief Service Officer
As Chief Service Officer, Sean Russell is responsible for outreach, communications and service delivery to REACH Air Medical Services' customers. Sean has been with REACH since 1991 and has held positions as Flight Paramedic, Chief Flight Paramedic, Program Director, Director of Clinical Operations and most recently Director of Service Delivery. Sean came to REACH from the Cameron Park and the City of Sonoma Fire Departments where he served as a Fire Fighter/Paramedic, Engineer and Fire Officer. He has also worked as a Respiratory Care Practitioner for the University of California San Francisco Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of Oakland. In addition to his management and pre-hospital positions, Sean has an extensive clinical background in pediatric and neonatal care. Most recently Sean has co-founded the California Association of Air Medical Services (CAL AAMS) chapter where he serves as the President. Sean received his Paramedic degree in San Mateo, California, his Respiratory Degree in Napa, California and his undergraduate degree of Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration from St. Mary’s University.
